Playing the Maryland State Lottery
Maryland Lottery tickets are bearer instruments.
For your protection, sign the back of your ticket. Play slips
are not valid receipts. The Maryland Lottery is not responsible
for lost, stolen, altered, mutilated, or destroyed tickets.
The purchaser of the ticket has sole responsibility for checking
the accuracy of the data printed on tickets before leaving
the retailer location.
Corrections or cancellations must be made
at the time of purchase. A further listing of the Maryland
Lottery Rules and Regulations is contained in the Code of
Maryland Regulations (COMAR), Title 14, Independent Agencies.
The Maryland Lottery statute is contained
in the Maryland State Government Article, Section 9-101-et
seq. of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
Players of the Maryland State lottery
must be 18 years of age or older to play or cash tickets.
Tickets may not be sold to persons under 18 years
of age.
All winning lottey tickets are subject to
validation by the Maryland Lottery in accordance with the
rules and regulations. Prizes must be claimed within 182 days
from the date of the drawing or the announced end of any individual
Scratch-Off Game. All rules and regulations are subject to
change.
Proceeds from
the Maryland State Lottery
About 40% of every Lottery dollar is contributed
to the State's General Fund. General Fund dollars help support
almost every aspect of life in their State, from Education
and Health Care to Public Safety and the Environment. Since
1973 the Maryland Lottery has contributed over $7 billion
to the General Fund.
All lottery revenues of the Maryland State
Lottery are deposited into the State's General Fund. In the
Fiscal year of 2004, over $458 million was contributed to
support such services and programs as education, public health,
human resources, public safety and much more, all of which
greatly benefit theMaryland citizens.
The Maryland Stadium Authority benefited
from the roceeds of the designated scratch-off games and Mega
Millions which was $22,000,000 in 2004FY.
