Wetherby Racecourse, the finest Jumping Course in the North
The quality of racing at Wetherby Racecourse
is renowned throughout the sport. Many of the greatest steeple
chasers and hurdlers of all time have graced the turf at Wetherby.
The standards of the racecourse facilities
are renowned. There has been a lot of investment made on the
state-of-the-art Wetherby Millennium Stand and refurbishing
many of the existing bars and facilities too.
Racecourse facilities at Wetherby
Premier Enclosure
A Premier Badge will entitle
the racegoer to spend the day in the luxurious Wetherby Millennium
Stand. This stand offers panoramic viewing over the whole
Racecourse, both from the second floor bar and the terraced
viewing outside.
The Wetherby Millennium
Stand offers racegoers the chance to take pre-luncheon drinks
in the White Horse Mezzanine Bar, on level four, before dining
in style in the White Rose Suite, overlooking the Parade Ring.
Alternatively, a table can be booked in the 'Dine and View'
Area, which will provide a first-class view of racing from
the 'Dine and View' private balcony.
In the Marston Moor Bar on Level Two there
is also a snack bar situated. Tote facilities are available
on every floor of the Wetherby Millennium Stand.
A Premier Badge entitles the racegoer to
Wetherby racecourse to access all the facilities in the Paddock
and Course Enclosures, as well as the Premier Enclosure.
Paddock Enclosure
The Paddock enclosure provides
access to the Parade Ring, the Saddling-up Area and the Winners
Enclosure. This enclosure offers a fantastic view of racing
from either the Paddock Gallery (limited access) or the main
Paddock Grandstand. There is also a wide selection of Bars
and places to eat. With easy access to the Tote, the Tote
Bookmakers Betting Shop, the Tote Credit and on-course Bookmakers,
the Paddock Enclosure enables the Racegoer to experience every
aspect of a day at the Races! A Paddock Enclosure ticket provides
access into the Course Enclosure. You can also pay to transfer
to the Premier Enclosure on the day.
Course Enclosure
Situated in the Course Enclosure are the The Course Bar
and Tea Bar which provides drinks, hot snacks, sandwiches
and shelter throughout the day. It is also an ideal place
to picnic from the back of the car on sunny days! There is
a children's play area and on certain days, additional children's
entertainment is provided.
The Course enclosure provides an excellent
view of the racing and access to both the Tote and on Course
Bookmakers. This enclosure does not provide access to the
Paddock area or the Parade Ring, although you can pay to transfer
to the Paddock Enclosure on the day.
Directions to Wetherby Racecourse
Road
The Racecourse is situated
on the B1224 Wetherby/York Road, on the outskirts of Wetherby,
at the East side of the A1.
Approaching from the
A1 South, take the second exit for Wetherby, sign posted 'Racecourse'.
Turn right on to the B1224 to York. The Racecourse is situated
approximately half a mile on the right hand side.
Approaching from the
A1 North, take the first exit for Wetherby. Turn right onto
the B1224 to York. The Racecourse is situated approximately
half a mile from there.
Rail
The nearest railway stations to the Racecourse are Leeds,
approximately 12 miles, and York, approximately 14 miles.
Bus
There is a bus service that runs from Leeds City Bus Station
to Wetherby Bus Station every half hour from Monday to Saturday
and every hour on Sundays, but please check times.
Starting from York
Rougier Street Bus Station, and calling at the Railway Station,
the '42 bus' service runs every hour to Wetherby Market Place.
Air
Leeds Bradford Airport is the closest commercial Airport
to the Racecourse, please call 0113 250 9696 for Airport information.
Light aircraft can
land at The Yorkshire Gliding Club, Rufforth (01904 738 694),
which is approximately 5 miles away. Fuel facilities and overnight
parking are available at the Club. Please call The Yorkshire
Gliding Club at least one day in advance to arrange arrival
times.
By prior agreement,
helicopters can land at the Wetherby Racecourse.
