Since the first race took place in 1741,
the Curragh in Kildare is the head quarters of flat racing
in Ireland Situated less that an hour from Dublin, they host
all five Classic Races and up to 14 other quality racedays
between March and October. Easy to get to and with superb
facilities for families, friends and colleagues, both dedicated
racegoers and novices, the Curragh provides the best in drama
and enjoyment of racing.
The Curragh is owned and managed by the Irish
Turf Club, founded in Kildare in the 1760's to encourage the
sport of Horse Racing and which continues today as the regulatory
body for Racing throughout Ireland.
The racecourse is a right-handed horseshoe
shaped with a circuit of two miles with no sharp bends and
a straight run in of three furlongs uphill. It includes a
straight mile course and two round courses, plate and Derby.
The Curragh is widely recognised as a very fair galloping
track.
